Why I Started Business Casual

After 20 years in the corporate world — working across continents, leading big teams, and solving complex problems— I decided it was time to build something of my own.

Something different.

I wanted to create a business that wasn’t just about business. One that valued people as much as performance. A space where thoughtful strategy, genuine collaboration, and a little curiosity could go a long way. A company I’d be proud to hand to my kids one day — even if they choose to do something totally different.

And so, Business Casual was born.
A consulting and advisory firm with a simple mission:

Help people do meaningful work — better.

A Bit About My Background

Before launching Business Casual, I held leadership roles in operations, marketing, and strategy — supporting everything from scrappy startups to Fortune 100 giants. Here’s my professional rundown:

  • Managed global teams of 1,000+ people across three continents

  • Supported government contracts and private clients like Sysco Foods, BP, and the U.S. Department of State

  • Helped fast-growing businesses scale—and legacy businesses adapt

  • Worked inside family-run operations, investor-backed companies, and everything in between

I know how to navigate systems. I know how to translate vision into execution. And I know how to spot the real issue when it’s hiding under six layers of “busy.”

But more than anything, I know how to work with people. The kind of people who are juggling growth, pressure, and mission all at once—and just need a trusted voice at the table.

Why “Business Casual”?

The name came to me while thinking about what kind of environment I want to foster. One that’s:

  • Professional but approachable

  • Grounded but forward-thinking

  • Serious about outcomes — but light in spirit

Moreover, it’s a nod to my Sri Lankan hospitality.

To the belief that deep conversations don’t always need formal settings. And to the idea that solving real problems often happens somewhere between a strategy session and a good cup of coffee.

My Approach

I don’t sell cookie-cutter solutions or rely on jargon.

Instead, I meet you where you are.
We start with a conversation.

We get clear on what you’re trying to build—or fix.
Then we chart a practical path forward together.

I might work with you for two hours or two years.
I might serve as your part-time operator, your sounding board, your strategy partner—or all three.

And if I’m not the right fit? I’ll tell you. Then I’ll help you find someone who is. Because helping people get unstuck is the work I love.
